Charlie Detweiler, Strath Haven Class of 2025 and recipient of the George Slick Fellowship for Visual Art, is deeply connected to his Pennsylvania community. Since he could hold a pencil, he has been dedicated to the creative process, exploring various mediums and techniques, though he primarily works with oil paints. His commitment to art and community not only reflects his environment but also fosters meaningful dialogue and connections among viewers.
Charlie’s work has been highlighted in The Swarthmorean Community paper, Strath Haven Literary and Art Magazine, Jabberwocky, The Strath Haven School Paper, and the Delaware County Annual Regional Art Show. In addition to being a member of the National Honors Arts Society, Charlie has received distinctions and awards, including the 2023 Pennsylvania Press Club High School Journalism Award Winner (Cartoon), multiple awards from Longwood Gardens including Rose Tree Art Award Finalist, and Finalist & US Congressional Winner for a nationwide high school arts competition sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Outside of school, Charlie collaborates with local businesses, showcasing designs, and completed a 40-foot mural for the Swarthmore Swim Club last summer.
